The pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela has become, from its inception, a remarkable religious and cultural event, deeply rooted in the Middle Ages. It was recently recognized by the European Parliament, which designated the Camino as the “First European Cultural Itinerary,” and by UNESCO, which consecrated it World Heritage. The discovery of the tomb of the Apostle Santiago, son of Zebedee and brother of John the Evangelist, transformed the small Roman settlement, which had become a necropolis through centuries of obscurity. Above all, it marked a turning point in the spiritual history of the Continent, which quickly set about plowing a path to reach the precious relic.
