Success extends exhibition about the Camino in Fátima
The exhibition “Não passes pelo Caminho… deixa antes que o Caminho passe por ti” (Don’t just walk the Camino… Let the Camino walk through you), installed at the Fátima Tourism Office, has been extended until November 30 following an overwhelmingly positive reception from tourists and pilgrims of the Caminos de Santiago and Fátima. Organized in partnership by the Associação Espaço Jacobeus (AEJ), Tourism of Central Portugal, and the Ourém Municipality, the exhibition features a diverse collection: photographs of Santiago routes, Jacobean tradition objects, statues of Santiago, handcrafted items, and the iconic queimada galega pot. Visitors also encounter illustrated pilgrim testimonials, mementos, and other traditional items, providing an immersive experience that captures the spirit of pilgrimage.
Carina Frazão, AEJ delegate in Fátima, explains that the exhibition was designed to let visitors experience the Camino as if they were pilgrims, through items such as the staff, the gourd, and the credential. António Devesa, president of AEJ, describes the space as an invitation for visitors to begin preparing for the journey – an experience that the exhibition contextualizes through its displayed stories and heritage. Carlos Figueiredo, from Tourism of Central Portugal, sees the exhibition as an opportunity to bring people closer to the knowledge of the Camino and to encourage interest in this historic route. Isabel Costa, vice president of the Ourém Municipality, highlights that the exhibition helps clarify what the Camino de Santiago is, as it is often misunderstood.
Open to visitors Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and on weekends and holidays with extended hours until 6:00 PM, the exhibition has already attracted visitors from around the world, including Brazil, the USA, Japan, South Korea, and various European countries.
The Associação Espaço Jacobeus, a Catholic confraternity based in Braga since 2004, is known for welcoming people of all faiths and backgrounds. Recognized in 2006 by the Archdiocese of Braga, it joined the Universal Archconfraternity of the Apostle Santiago in Compostela to promote the spiritual values of the Camino.
